Shopify cake order forms with pickup scheduling
Let customers choose their cake details and a pickup time that fits your preparation rules.
Use COLY to add cake choices, an optional inscription and pickup details to selected Shopify products. Keep the information your team needs with the order before preparation begins.

Try the cake order example
Choose a flavour, keep or clear the optional inscription, and try the example dates. The fictional clock makes the preparation rule visible. Advance it to see why a previously valid pickup may need rechecking.
Try a fictional cake pickup order
Illustrative prototype. No order, payment or pickup reservation is created. These rules demonstrate this example’s logic, not a tested merchant checkout.
Example clock: Tuesday, 6 October 2026 at 09:00
Asia/Kuala_Lumpur · UTC+08:00. Minimum 48 hours; Monday closed; 10 October blackout; maximum 30 days ahead.
Tuesday–Saturday 10:00–16:00; Sunday 10:00–13:00; 30-minute choices. This model includes the final displayed time. No capacity limit or reservation is simulated.

Advancing the fictional clock rechecks the selected pickup. It does not demonstrate COLY checkout validation. No sample answer is sent by this component to analytics.
This is a teaching prototype with fictional data. It does not submit a Shopify order, reserve bakery capacity, connect a calendar or prove COLY behavior in a merchant theme. The displayed rule combination and endpoints belong to this model; verify your actual schedule before taking orders.
Build the order around your cake menu
Keep inventory and variant pricing in Shopify where your menu already uses them. Add a required flavour choice, an optional inscription or other preparation details with COLY. Make essential answers required and leave extras optional.
A celebration cake might use a Shopify size variant, a required flavour choice and an optional cake message. An optional card message can be a separate field when your bakery offers cards. If a choice changes the price, check the pricing setup rather than treating a free-text answer as a priced variant.
Follow the COLY product-form setup guide. Use conditional fields when an answer makes a follow-up question relevant. An optional inscription must stay optional through validation and fulfillment.
Offer pickup dates that fit preparation rules
COLY documents minimum lead time, same-day cutoffs, weekday cutoff overrides, a maximum number of days ahead, blackout dates and weekday time choices. Configure the rules your bakery needs, then test them in the store timezone. These are scheduling rules; a selectable time is not a capacity reservation.
The prototype uses 48 hours of preparation time, Monday closure, one blackout and 30-minute choices. It has no cutoff override. Test cutoffs in a separate fixture rather than assuming a same-day cutoff adds meaning to this 48-hour example.
Optional checkout schedule validation can recheck date/time rules later in the purchase flow. It requires the Growth plan, the required Shopify permissions and enabled validation configuration. Test saved carts, delayed checkout and the actual error experience before relying on it. Advancing the prototype clock only simulates a recheck.
Review the documented scheduling changes. The existing pickup-request tutorial collects a preference without schedule restrictions; this page explains a workflow with configured date rules. Do not describe a preference as a confirmed pickup.
Check the details your team will use
Your team should receive the correct cake size, flavour, exact inscription and pickup choice for each order line. COLY provides an order view and CSV or Excel export for custom form data.
Before accepting live orders, place an authorized test order with fictional details and check the cart, Shopify order and preparation workflow. Two cakes with different messages must keep their details on the right lines. Confirmation emails and packing slips may need template work; test them separately if staff or customers rely on them.

Choose the right starting scope
Start with one pickup location, a defined menu and repeatable preparation rules. Ask about your requirements if you need maximum orders per slot, kitchen-capacity reservations, multiple pickup locations or calendar coordination. Those capabilities are not demonstrated by this example.
A form can collect a request; your bakery still decides whether it can fulfill it. This prototype does not collect allergy or health information and cannot establish ingredient or cross-contact safety.
Plans
The current COLY listing lists Plus at US$7/month with delivery, pickup and appointment date rules. Growth is US$19/month and includes priced options and checkout price enforcement. Both list a seven-day trial. The free Basic plan lists one active form and up to three fields. Prices checked 2 October 2026; confirm current terms before installing.
This scheduling workflow needs a plan with date rules. Checkout schedule validation has its separate Growth/configuration requirements described above.

Questions bakery owners ask
Can customers add an inscription?
Yes. Add a text field and decide whether it is optional or required. Check that the exact text reaches the order and any paperwork your team uses.
Can different cakes ask different questions?
Assign forms to the appropriate products. Conditional fields can show a follow-up when a selected answer makes it relevant. Keep native size variants and any priced options clearly separated from free-text details.
Can I stop customers choosing a date that is too soon?
COLY documents a minimum-lead-time rule. Set the interval your bakery needs, then test immediately before, at and after its boundary in the configured timezone.
Can I block closed days and holidays?
COLY documents weekday windows and blackout dates. Test weekly closures, individual blackouts and the maximum-ahead boundary before making the form live.
Does the app limit orders per pickup slot?
Capacity-based booking is not verified for this workflow. Confirm any maximum-cakes-per-day or slot requirement before choosing the setup. A date rule does not reserve kitchen capacity.
Will pickup details appear in emails and packing slips?
Order data and exports are supported. Exact email and packing-slip output depends on your templates and needs a test order; do not assume every template displays every custom field.
Test your complete cake workflow
- Start with one cake product and one schedule in an authorized test environment.
- Check required flavour and optional inscription, including two cakes with different messages.
- Test lead-time boundaries, closed weekdays, the blackout, slot endpoints and the maximum-ahead limit.
- Test cutoff overrides separately. Include store/browser timezone differences and daylight-saving boundaries where relevant.
- Check product-page, cart drawer, cart page and purchase routes your store uses. If enabled, verify delayed-checkout validation and its recovery message.
- Inspect the Shopify order, COLY export, emails and packing slips separately before promising their output.
The prototype tests its own calculations and interactions. Real-theme, checkout and fulfillment proof remains a separate merchant-store check.
