Shopify technical product catalogs and reference tables

Publish searchable, multi-row product data for technical, industrial, and scientific catalogs.

What is a Shopify technical product catalog?

A Shopify technical product catalog is a searchable, multi-row storefront table for products that need more detail than a title and price. With Table Master, each row can show Shopify product or variant data, metafields, and supported fields from linked metaobjects. This can help stores that sell laboratory supplies, industrial parts, electronic components, specialty materials, or other products with model numbers and technical attributes. Shoppers can search, sort, filter, compare rows, and use a separate cart control for each variant. Imported Shopify-managed fields and selected custom data need a manual Sync products action. Standard online-store product tables check current variant availability and presentment pricing separately. Table Master displays merchant-supplied data; it is not a PIM and does not validate scientific accuracy, regulatory status, or product suitability. It does not connect to live external APIs or create customer-specific B2B catalogs. Public self-service plans include up to 20,000 rows. Higher row limits are available by arrangement after a fit review.

Which technical product data can the catalog show?

Table Master can build a multi-row catalog from Shopify products, Excel, CSV, XLS, or Google Sheets. A Shopify product import can include:

  • Product images, titles, prices, SKUs, product types, vendors, and Shopify identifiers.
  • One main row for each variant, or one product row with expandable variants.
  • Product metafields and variant metafields.
  • Supported child fields from metaobjects linked through a metafield.
  • Separate quantity or Add to Cart controls for product variants.

A grouped product row supports up to 20 variants. Use variant rows for a product with more variants. One Shopify product database can include up to 20 selected custom-data columns, but its final column count must also fit the active plan.

Shopify describes metafields as a way to add specialized information to Shopify resources. The merchant must define, maintain, and review that information. Table Master displays supported fields; it does not decide whether a technical value is correct.

Read the Shopify product table from metafields guide for a focused custom-data example.

How can shoppers find the correct technical row?

Table Master can help shoppers work through a long reference catalog with:

  • Partial, multi-word search across visible columns.
  • Up to 10 hidden columns that can still take part in search.
  • Sorting, pagination, responsive column collapse, and locked columns.
  • Up to six table filters with linked, cascading choices.
  • Up to 50 automatically generated options for each filter.
  • A setting that keeps rows hidden until the shopper selects all required filters.

These controls search and filter the published Table Master table. They do not change Shopify storefront search, collection filtering, or predictive search. The filters use values that already exist in the rows. They do not use semantic AI to infer scientific equivalence, compatibility, or product suitability.

How does the catalog data refresh?

Imported Shopify-managed fields, such as titles, SKUs, and selected custom data, refresh when the merchant uses Sync products. On standard online-store product tables, Table Master separately checks current Shopify variant availability and presentment pricing for the rows it renders. This does not make the imported database an automatic sync.

A Google Sheets source can pull data every six hours when automatic updates are enabled. A merchant can also use Sync now. This connection is one way from Google Sheets to Table Master. It is not real-time, it does not write changes back to the sheet, and it is not a live external API connection.

What does Table Master not do for technical or scientific data?

Table Master is a storefront catalog and table tool. Its boundaries are:

  • It is not a product information management system. It does not provide product-governance workflows, approval flows, or data-quality rules.
  • It does not validate scientific data, engineering claims, certificates, regulatory status, safety, compatibility, or fitness for a purpose.
  • It does not connect the table to a live laboratory, supplier, inventory, or regulatory API.
  • It does not create customer-specific Shopify B2B catalogs, customer-specific price lists, volume discounts, or quantity breaks.
  • It does not add several selected variants to the cart with one final action. Each variant uses a separate cart control.
  • It does not provide unlimited rows. The active row and column limits still apply.

The merchant remains responsible for source data, labels, units, claims, access controls, and required legal or regulatory review.

How many rows can a technical catalog hold?

The official Shopify App Store listing showed public plan allowances of 4,000, 10,000, and 20,000 database rows when this page was reviewed. Public self-service plans include up to 20,000 rows.

Higher row limits are available by arrangement for larger reference catalogs. This does not mean that capacity is unlimited. Contact Activory support with the expected row count, column count, data source, storefront filters, and update method. The team can review the fit before the catalog is published. Public plan names, prices, and allowances can change, so check the App Store listing before purchase.

What does a technical product catalog look like?

A scientific supplier can use one row for each product or variant and separate columns for the product name, SKU, format, expression system, species, modification, application, and product link. An industrial supplier can use the same structure for part numbers, materials, sizes, tolerances, certificates, and compatibility attributes.

These are example table structures. Table Master displays and filters merchant-supplied data. It does not validate technical values, scientific claims, certificates, regulatory status, compatibility, or fitness for a purpose.

How do I build a searchable Shopify technical catalog?

  1. Decide whether Shopify, a spreadsheet, or Google Sheets is the source of truth.
  2. Use one row for each product, variant, part, material, or reference item that shoppers must find.
  3. Keep units and field names consistent. Put model numbers, alternate identifiers, and technical attributes in separate columns.
  4. Follow the Shopify product and grouped variant import guide when Shopify is the source.
  5. Follow the metafield and metaobject sync guide when technical fields use Shopify custom data.
  6. Test common searches, filter combinations, mobile layouts, links, and cart actions before publication.
  7. Set an owner and review schedule for the source data. Table Master does not replace this data-control work.

Publish a searchable technical product catalog

Use Table Master when technical, industrial, or scientific product data needs searchable rows, clear filters, and optional variant cart controls.
