How do I sync Shopify metafields and metaobjects to a product table?

Add selected product metafields, variant metafields, and supported fields from linked metaobjects as columns in a Table Master Shopify product database.

Reviewed August 12, 2026. This guide describes the current Table Master custom-data import and sync controls.

How does Table Master sync Shopify custom data?

Table Master can add selected Shopify custom data to a product table as synced columns. Supported sources include product metafields, variant metafields, and supported child fields from metaobjects linked through a metafield. A merchant can select up to 20 custom-data columns for one Shopify product database. During import, open Custom data, find the available fields, and select the values that customers must compare, search, or filter. For a metaobject reference, expand Fields and select the required child fields instead of the parent reference. After import, use More actions, Manage custom data, and Save & sync to change the selected columns. Shopify-managed values are not editable in Table Master. Change these values in Shopify, then use Sync products to refresh them. This product sync is manual and does not run automatically. The final table must also stay within the column limit of the merchant's Table Master plan.

Which Shopify custom data can Table Master use?

Table Master can search available Shopify custom data for a product table. It can add:

  • Product metafields.
  • Variant metafields.
  • Supported child fields from a metaobject that a metafield links to.
  • Reference values that Table Master can render as linked titles or thumbnails.

You can select up to 20 synced custom-data columns. A parent metaobject reference is a group. Expand its Fields control and select the child fields that you want as columns.

Example: A product metafield named custom.compatibility_record can link to a metaobject with fields such as Year, Make, Model, and Engine. Select the supported child fields that the customer must see or filter.

How do I select custom data during product import?

  1. Start a new database and choose Shopify products.
  2. Grant product access if Table Master requests it.
  3. Select your products. See the Shopify product import guide.
  4. Open the Custom data tab.
  5. Select Find custom data.
  6. Search by a field name, namespace, key, source, or type.
  7. For a linked metaobject, select Fields to show its available child fields.
  8. Select the required fields. Check the selected-field and table-column counts.
  9. Save the import.

Table Master adds the selected fields as Shopify-managed columns. Product-level values repeat as needed in a variant-row table. Variant metafields can keep their variant-specific values.

How do I add or remove synced custom-data columns later?

  1. Open the Shopify product database.
  2. Open More actions.
  3. Select Manage custom data.
  4. Search or browse the available metafields and metaobject fields.
  5. Select or clear fields as required.
  6. Select Save & sync.

Save & sync updates the column set and refreshes the Shopify data. If you later change a metafield or metaobject value in Shopify, open the database and use Sync products to get the current value. Shopify product sync is manual. It does not run automatically.

What is a safe custom-data table structure?

Use one column for each value that customers must compare, search, or filter. For example, a technical-product table can use Product title, SKU, Voltage, Material, Certification, and Add to Cart. Keep long internal notes out of the visible table.

If an internal value helps search, you can hide that column and make it searchable. Table Master supports up to 10 searchable hidden columns. Read How do I configure smart search and filters?

What limits apply to metafields and metaobjects?

  • You can select up to 20 synced Shopify custom-data columns.
  • Metaobject parent references must be expanded so you can select supported child fields.
  • The available fields depend on the store's Shopify metafield and metaobject definitions.
  • Shopify-managed values are locked in Table Master. Edit them in Shopify, then use Sync products.
  • Shopify product sync is manual. It is not automatic.
  • A field still uses a table column, so the total must fit the plan column limit.
