Gift Finder Quiz Setup Guide

Try a Shopify gift finder for cooking, reading, and outdoor gifts. Each answer opens a relevant question or a prepared collection result. Use the budget and unsure choices, then follow the complete question and result plan to recreate it in KOBU.

Try the storefront example

Choose Cooking, then a budget. Read the result and select its collection link. Use Back to change an answer. Reset example starts a new test. Result links show a sample path below the quiz.

Storefront example

This example uses KOBU storefront code with sample data and the settings below. Your theme’s fonts and available width can change the result. Example links show their destination; purchase controls use a sample cart. Use the checks below to confirm the finished setup in your store.

Build it in KOBU

  1. Prepare the gift collections in Shopify from the result plan below. Check product publication, stock, prices, and variant choices. Replace every sample collection path. For the budget results, use one currency and keep the displayed ranges accurate.
  2. Open Product quizzes in KOBU and select Add quiz. Create a draft named Gift finder. Product quizzes require a supported paid plan; check the current App Store plans before setup.
  3. Use Add question to create the five question screens from the route table. Copy each screen title and its answer labels. Set Start step to What do they enjoy? The Node values in the route table are reference names for your setup.
  4. Use Add result to create the eleven result screens. Copy the result title and description from the collection plan. Add the named destination action with your real collection URL. Product ideas in the plan are examples for choosing stock, not a live product feed.
  5. For each answer, set Answer opens to Another step, then choose the matching Target step from the route table. Connect Cooking to the cooking question, Everyday cooking to the kitchen-budget question, and Under USD 30 to the small-kitchen-gifts result. Complete all remaining routes before publishing.
  6. Use Preview to walk each route. Open View and copy the quiz shortcode from Storefront setup. Enable the Kobu - Menu Highlight app embed, then paste the copied shortcode into a Custom Liquid or HTML block in your theme. Check the published quiz on desktop and phone, including every result action, Back, and Start over.

Example settings

  • Use the default guided-flow design. Set the first question to What do they enjoy? Use the question and result IDs in the route table to connect each answer to its next screen.
  • Create the result collections in Shopify before you add their links in KOBU. The quiz uses direct answer routes. It does not calculate a recommendation score.

Sample data and content

Use these values for a test. Replace them with checked product data, published destinations, and offers that your store can supply.

Which questions should a gift-finder quiz ask?

Start with an interest that separates your actual product ranges. Ask about reading location only on the reading route, and activity only on the outdoor route. The kitchen budget question is useful only if you can maintain distinct price collections. Remove a question when its answers lead to the same result. Keep an unsure answer at each preference question so shoppers can continue without guessing.

Read the KOBU setup guide for the full app controls and placement options.

Check the finished setup

  • Choose Cooking, Everyday cooking, and Under USD 30. Confirm the result is Small kitchen gifts. Go back and choose USD 30 to 60; the result must change to Kitchen gift sets.
  • Check collection items at USD 29.99, USD 30, USD 60, and USD 60.01. The first belongs below 30, the middle two belong from 30 through 60, and the last belongs in neither budget range.
  • From a kitchen result, go back to the first question and choose Reading, then On the move. Confirm the result is Reading gifts for travel and no earlier kitchen answer remains in the path.
  • Check every Not sure answer. The start question must reach All gift ideas; later questions must reach the broader collection for that interest.
  • Open all eleven result actions as a customer. Check for missing pages, empty collections, unavailable variants, and incorrect price labels. If a collection is no longer useful, change its target or remove the answer before publishing.

Common mistakes

  • Do not promise a live budget filter. These answers lead to prepared collections, whose prices and contents you must keep accurate.
  • Do not make the unsure route a dead end or ask extra questions that cannot change the result.
  • Do not copy the sample URLs unchanged or treat the route table Node names as IDs that KOBU will import.

Supported use

KOBU follows the answer targets and result links you configure. It does not create these collections, score preferences, check live stock, or filter product prices from this tutorial. A result can contain a title, description, and destination action. Keep each collection useful and check it in the published store. This local example illustrates the route logic; it is not a live KOBU embed.

KOBU features, current app plans, and Shopify collection setup explain the supported setup.

Result collections

Create these collections in Shopify and add the corresponding action links in KOBU.

Small kitchen gifts

Start with small tools for everyday cooking, with an item price below USD 30.

  • Node reference: small-kitchen-gifts
  • Action label: Browse small kitchen gifts
  • Example destination: /collections/kitchen-gifts-under-30
  • Product ideas: A silicone spatula; A set of measuring spoons
  • Merchant check: Include only products priced below USD 30. An item at exactly USD 30 belongs in the next range. Check each selectable variant and show shipping and tax separately.

Kitchen gift sets

Compare useful cooking sets with item prices from USD 30 through USD 60.

  • Node reference: kitchen-gift-sets
  • Action label: Browse kitchen gift sets
  • Example destination: /collections/kitchen-gifts-30-to-60
  • Product ideas: A utensil set; A pair of mixing bowls
  • Merchant check: Include USD 30 and USD 60, but exclude prices above USD 60. Check the actual set contents, current prices, and every selectable variant.

Kitchen gifts

Browse a wider cooking selection when the exact style or budget is undecided.

  • Node reference: kitchen-gifts
  • Action label: Browse kitchen gifts
  • Example destination: /collections/kitchen-gifts
  • Product ideas: Everyday cooking tools; Preparation bowls
  • Merchant check: Keep this collection useful across price ranges. Do not label it as a low-price result. Both the unsure and no-set-budget answers can use this destination.

Hosting gifts

Explore items for serving food and setting a shared table.

  • Node reference: hosting-gifts
  • Action label: Browse hosting gifts
  • Example destination: /collections/hosting-gifts
  • Product ideas: A serving platter; A set of cloth napkins
  • Merchant check: Check the number of pieces, dimensions, and care instructions. Do not describe a single item as a complete table setting.

Reading gifts for home

Look at accessories for a reading corner or a favourite chair.

  • Node reference: reading-at-home
  • Action label: Browse reading gifts for home
  • Example destination: /collections/reading-at-home
  • Product ideas: A reading cushion; A book stand
  • Merchant check: Use products suited to home reading. Show dimensions and any assembly needs on the product page.

Reading gifts for travel

Explore small accessories for carrying and protecting a book.

  • Node reference: reading-on-the-move
  • Action label: Browse reading gifts for travel
  • Example destination: /collections/reading-on-the-move
  • Product ideas: A fabric book sleeve; A slim bookmark
  • Merchant check: Show the supported book dimensions for fitted accessories. A travel label alone does not establish fit.

Reading gifts

Browse both home and portable reading accessories when their habits are unknown.

  • Node reference: reading-gifts
  • Action label: Browse reading gifts
  • Example destination: /collections/reading-gifts
  • Product ideas: Book accessories; Reading-corner accessories
  • Merchant check: Include useful choices from both reading branches. Avoid sending the unsure answer to an empty general collection.

Gifts for day walks

Start with everyday accessories for a short walk.

  • Node reference: walking-gifts
  • Action label: Browse gifts for day walks
  • Example destination: /collections/walking-gifts
  • Product ideas: A reusable bottle; A small day bag
  • Merchant check: Describe capacity, dimensions, and intended use. Do not infer technical safety or weather protection from the quiz answer.

Picnic gifts

Explore reusable items for an outdoor meal.

  • Node reference: picnic-gifts
  • Action label: Browse picnic gifts
  • Example destination: /collections/picnic-gifts
  • Product ideas: A picnic blanket; A reusable cutlery set
  • Merchant check: Show the number of people or pieces covered. Use checked care and material information for each product.

Outdoor gifts

Browse a wider outdoor selection before choosing an activity-specific gift.

  • Node reference: outdoor-gifts
  • Action label: Browse outdoor gifts
  • Example destination: /collections/outdoor-gifts
  • Product ideas: Walking accessories; Picnic accessories
  • Merchant check: Keep the broad result connected to the two activity ranges. Do not imply that all products suit every outdoor activity.

All gift ideas

Browse several interests when you do not know which direction to choose.

  • Node reference: all-gifts
  • Action label: Browse all gift ideas
  • Example destination: /collections/gifts
  • Product ideas: Cooking gifts; Reading and outdoor gifts
  • Merchant check: Offer a useful mixed selection with clear product information. Keep this route available without requiring a guessed preference.

Setup questions

How many questions will a shopper answer?

This example has five question screens, but a shopper answers only one to three questions. Not sure at the start reaches a result immediately. Reading and outdoor routes use two questions. Everyday cooking uses three. The number depends on the chosen route.

Can the quiz automatically remove sold-out gifts?

This example does not check inventory or remove results automatically. It opens the collection linked to the result. Check the live collection and its Shopify settings, then change an answer target when that destination no longer gives shoppers a useful choice.

How should I use this quiz in another currency?

Replace the USD labels and prepare collections that match the prices customers see in the target market. Do not relabel USD 30 as another currency without checking the actual prices. If you cannot keep those ranges accurate, remove the budget question and link to the wider kitchen collection.
